Fallopian Tube Conditions

Fallopian tubes are the thin ducts that carry a mature egg, or ovum, from the ovary to the uterus. The fallopian tubes may be affected by scarring, endometriosis, cancer, or inflammation known as salpingitis. Fallopian tube conditions and treatments may affect your fertility. Click on the links below to learn more about fallopian tube health.

Women have two fallopian tubes that extend from either side of the uterus and reach towards the ovaries with tiny fringe-like fimbriae. A sperm may fertilize the mature egg on its way to the uterus.

In a normal pregnancy, the fertilized egg implants in the uterus. However, in an ectopic pregnancy, the egg implants in the fallopian tube. This is a life-threatening condition for the mother and must be treated right away.
