Opening up about Life with Endometriosis
“The Doctors” television show welcomed Dr. Aliabadi and two of her patients, singer Halsey and “MacGyver” star Kate Bond to speak about living with endometriosis and their struggle to find answers before finding Dr. Aliabadi.
Actress Kate Bond starts the show, talking about her terrible experiences trying to find help
Kate is one of the approximate 176 million women worldwide who is dealing with endometriosis, which is when the lining of your uterus grows outside of the uterus and can cause debilitating pain. The actress shares she endured painful menstrual cycles for most of her life and at times she says it felt like a “gut punch.”
She tells us the pain grew as she has gotten older. She says she has even fainted and at times will end up in bed with pain for days. She suspected she could have endometriosis, as she has a family history of it. After seeing numerous doctors she says she was told it was very difficult to diagnose endometriosis and says at no point was she told about any possible treatments to help her.

It was Dr. Aliabadi who diagnosed Kate with endometriosis and she had surgery just two weeks ago. She states she is doing well, noting that her post-surgery pain was less than her previous menstrual cramps.
Singer Halsey joins the show to discuss her struggles with endometriosis
Another woman who has dealt with endometriosis is singer Halsey, who says that she initially thought she had to just deal with “a really bad period.” She says as her career took off, the pain and complications worsened and there were times when it caused her to faint.
She tells The Doctors that she was misdiagnosed with chronic fatigue and anxiety. In one particularly scary incident, Halsey says she began excessively bleeding along with experiencing extreme pain, collapsed in the street, and was rushed to the hospital.
Halsey finally gets her endometriosis diagnosis when she met with Dr. Aliabadi.
“It was so bittersweet because the relief of knowing I wasn’t making it all up and I wasn’t being sensitive, and it wasn’t all in my head, but it also kind of sucked to know that I was going to be living with this forever,” she shares.
Halsey tells The Doctors that a few months after she was diagnosed with endometriosis, she also found out she was pregnant but sadly suffered a miscarriage during a performance. This horrendous event caused Halsey to take charge of her health.
“I put my foot down and I got really aggressive about seeking treatment and had surgery a year ago and I feel a lot better,” she tells The Doctors.
Dr. Aliabadi devised a plan to help Halsey deal with her endometriosis, which included the implementation of IUD, surgery to address her endometriosis, and the 23-year-old says she plans to freeze her eggs.

“Taking these measures so hopefully I can have a bright future and achieve the things that I want to achieve… is very important,” Halsey says. “We need to make sure that women know that being in pain when you’re menstruating is not normal… we can’t minimize these people’s pain.”
The Doctors suggest anyone who is experiencing significant pain related to their menstrual cycle seek out a second opinion or a new doctor if needed. Dr. Aliabadi shares her three red flags for endometriosis, which include:
- Painful periods
- Periods that cause someone to miss work or school due to pain during your period
- Ending up in the emergency room with pain from a period
